Frequently Asked Questions
-
First off, welcome! You’ll need to either buy a day pass or membership to climb. Your first visit will include a orientation to explain the gym rules and etiquette. After the orientation, you are free to climb any walls that are available on that day.
Everyone in the facility will need a signed waiver, even if they are just watching. Those under 18 must have their waiver filled out and signed by a parent or court-appointed guardian. Waivers can be filled out in advance at this link.
-
Junction memberships do not include J2 access by default. You will need to purchase a Day Pass or 10 Punch Pass, or upgrade your membership to include dual gym access. Please read our Dual Membership FAQ for more details.
-
J2 has about 80 boulder problems, with plenty of options for climbers of all abilities and backgrounds. We follow a circuit-based system for difficulty levels - more on that here.
Please note that every climber must receive an orientation and gym tour on their first visit, regardless of prior experience.
-
Children are welcome to climb, however there are limited climbs for very young kids.
We also require active supervision for kids age 12 and under - staff are not available to watch your children. Supervisors must be age 16 or older. We recommend one supervising adult for every three children. If you’d prefer to not supervise, contact us to book a Guided Climb and we can schedule a dedicated instructor to be with your group. Guided Climb bookings require at least one week notice.
Minors under 18 must also have their waiver filled out and signed by a parent or court-appointed guardian. You cannot sign a waiver for a child that is not yours - no exceptions! Participants without a valid waiver will not be able to enter the climbing area, even if they are just watching. Waivers can be filled out online at this link.
-
We recommend that kids be approximately 5 and older before trying our gym, however this can vary based on the climber's attitude and abilities. Bouldering is not recommended for very young kids. Consider visiting the Junction Climbing Centre in Old East Village instead, which has more climbs appropriate for younger participants.
Regardless of age, everyone entering the climbing area must complete a waiver, even if they are not climbing.
-
No - we have the gear options available to rent or buy! Rock climbing shoes are required for climbers. We don't allow climbing barefoot or in running/street shoes of any kind. For safety and hygiene reasons, equipment cannot be shared between climbers.
Wear comfortable clothing, ideally athletic wear. Skirts and dresses are not permitted. Tops must be worn by all climbers. You will need to empty your pockets and take off any rings or jewelry before climbing.
-
You certainly can! Our pro shop is stocked with shoes, chalk, chalk bags, and other accessories from great brands. We also carry our own line of signature clothing.
-
All of our climbs are colour-coded according to difficulty level. This will be explained in our safety orientation. We follow a circuit-based system for difficulty levels - more on that here.
-
Absolutely not - no one is ever forced to climb to the top. We understand everyone has different levels of ability and comfort. You can come down at any time if you feel uneasy or anxious.
-
Possibly! Most disabilities can be accommodated. Please contact us to discuss your options.
We do our best to make climbing as accessible as we can! Bouldering does involve moving across soft mats, and falls without any other safety gear. For climbers not comfortable with that level of risk, we recommend roped climbing at Junction! Junction has partnered with Rise Above Adaptive Climbing, a non-profit organization run by rock climbers with disabilities, for climbers of all ages and experience levels.
